During the engagement, Minister Todd and the Ambassador addressed continued efforts to strengthen relations between Guyana and Norway at the bilateral and multilateral levels, particularly in the area of environment and climate change and sustainable development.

Minister Todd also provided an update on the border controversy between Guyana and Venezuela, and reaffirmed the Government of Guyana's commitment to the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity, the rule of international law, democracy and good governance.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali met with the US Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer and the National Security Council Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere Juan González this afternoon at State House in Georgetown.

Discussions focused on areas of mutual interest between Guyana, CARICOM and the United States.

Issues of democratic governance, economic stability, and regional security and other pressing hemispheric matters were discussed.

US Ambassador HE Nicole Theriot; Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, Mark Wells and National Security Council Senior Advisor Laura Updegrove were among the US officials present.

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, today received a farewell courtesy visit from outgoing Chilean Ambassador to Guyana, His Excellency Francisco Sepulveda Valenzuela.

Minister Todd expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for his contributions to the strengthening of the partnership between Guyana and Chile. Ambassador Valenzuela noted Guyana's leadership within the region, and expressed his deep appreciation to be able to represent Chile in Guyana.

In closing, Minister Todd stated that Guyana will continue to build on the collaboration with Chile to advance its Foreign Policy Agenda, particularly in energy, food, and climate security.

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, today received a courtesy call from Her Excellency Ms. Linda Charlotte Te Puni, the newly accredited non-resident High Commissioner of New Zealand to Guyana.

During the engagement, Minister Todd and the Ambassador identified and discussed potential areas to further advance bilateral cooperation between Guyana and New Zealand, including agriculture and food security, climate change, culture and sport and capacity building and training.

Minister Todd also underscored the Government of Guyana's commitment to the rule of international law, democracy, good governance, and the preservation and protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali received the Letters of Credence from the new Non-Resident High Commissioner of New Zealand to Guyana, HE Linda Te Puni at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive.

During today's brief ceremony, the Head of State underscored that Guyana is on a path of transformational development and is prioritising being a global leader in the areas of climate change, food security and energy security.

The President also highlighted that Guyana is diversifying its investment portfolio globally and wants expanded partnerships with its bilateral partners.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd and Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Elisabeth Harper were also part of the ceremony.

At a recent Africa summit, President Ali highlighted the potential for a significant boost in trade between Africa and the Caribbean islands. This discussion took place during a panel session focused on Africa's economic prosperity.

He said that to achieve these increases, systems must be put in place “to fix the trade barriers” and issues with transport and logistics.

The Head of State, who is on an Official Visit to Ghana, also lauded Africa for its fearless leadership, pointing to South Africa’s recent stance as an example.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali attended the commissioning of the Sentuo Oil Refinery in Ghana today. The event was also attended by Ghana’s President HE Nana Afuko-Addo

The Guyanese Head of State is currently in Ghana for an Official Visit.

Later today, he will be bestowed with the prestigious Global Africa Leadership Award in recognition of his “strong and transformational leadership”.

This meeting was in line with the Joint Declaration of Argyle for Dialogue and Peace that was agreed upon after the meeting of the Presidents of Guyana and Venezuela on December 14, 2023.
